A pussy

I'm thinking of getting one, but cant seem to find any except on gumtree .People are wanting silly prices anything from £60 for a mongrel cat to £750 for a pedigree cat. Years ago people would give away kittens for free. My local animal care centre has older cats some with health issues that have to be treated for life which I don't want. Any ideas of where to look.
