What @Lancswildlife and @WiganCouncil have achieved for their urban grassy spaces over the past two decades is nothing short of astounding! Here’s a short vid I did to showcase some of their amazing grasslands:

The ‘Flashes Festival of Nature’ will be the public launch of The Flashes of Wigan and Leigh - Greater Manchester’s first and only National Nature Reserve (NNR).
There will be a host of nature-themed activities including nature walks and accessible trails, foraging, ecocrafts and activities, nature stalls, face painting, photography and wild art.
Cllr Chris Ready, the portfolio holder for communities and neighbourhoods, said: “The Flashes Festival of Nature is a chance for our whole community to come together and celebrate our precious flashes, which we were proud to see declared as a National Nature Reserve by Natural England last October.” (News)

Re: National Nature Reserve
It's about time they put some money into the actual Nature Reserves instead of pouring it into fancy new cafe's and car parks. I've visited Pennington Flash and Three Sisters recently and the state of the nature reserve parts is a disgrace. In the theme of other money spent on the NNR a permanent nature reserve warden service like we used to have is peanuts!

Re: National Nature Reserve
I know very little about Wigan’s former nature reserve warden service, Oy, beyond the fact that wardens worked in Haigh Hall plantations.
I’ve heard of guided tours the wardens used to give, and once emailed the team about a wooden sculpture near the little train track to receive an informative reply: WW Thread (2010).
It certainly makes sense to have dedicated staff for the nature reserves
