The Rabbit Rocks featured on last night’s BBC North West Tonight, thanks to a once local lad, Neil Crossland, writing in.

The presenter, Roger Johnson, said it was filmed back in sunnier times,
But, of course, it’s always sunny in Ince! 8)

I saw it Jo anne. It was interesting that the "rock" roger was sitting on possibly came from the foundry chimney.

I think that could be a bit of duff information, Lolly.

“One of the reasons why the slag is round would be due to the buckets used to pour the molten iron would be round. The slag would in all likelihood be removed into round buckets also and then tipped once a bit cooler. It wouldn't really have much to do with the shape of the furnaces.”

I think it is Slag from the steel plant furnaces, when a furnace is tapped The molten steel is run into a ladle & when the ladle is full it overflows into Slag pans that are on each side of it it is then taken to the slag bank & tipped out.

When  was little  used to imagine they were ancient monuments from hundeds of years ago.
But yes they are slag from an iron ladle.

I have the start of cataracts Jo Anne.
I get monitored and checked every year at Boston House in Frog Lane.
At the moment they tell they're not bad enough to be operated on, but me the cynical
so-and-so thinks it might cost related.
