What local authorities think about the traditional county of Lancashire - www.forl.co.uk:

WIGAN

For administrative purposes, we are no longer part of Lancashire, but for ceremonial, cultural and related purposes we have always recognised and celebrated our Lancashire traditions.

Now thats' asking for trouble

I always put Lancashire as my address!

It will always be known as Lancashire by the residents therein.

There's no character in 'Greater Manchester.' Lancashire has history.

But it's exactly the same place. The only thing that's changed is the name.

That's what I mean. The name itself means nothing, as the name 'Lancashire' did.

I remember I photo job I had on Lancashire Day a few years ago. A new roadside garden in Standish was being opened to commemerate the day - and they invited the Lord-Lieutenant to officlally open it.

So who turns up? Sir Warren Smith, The Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester. Gave me a chuckle anyroad

"The Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester."

Doesn't have the same ring to it, do it?

Any local cheese would be classed as Lancashire.
Whoever heard of Greater Manchester cheese.

Was they expecting The Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire to turn up  on his motor-bike?  

Greater Manchester Day is a day bus ticket

Norley Hallers are from Pemberton, not Wigan. It follows that they were Lancastrians for a lot longer than the Wiganers!
