Does anyone still knit?
My mum knitted everything from bootees to beenie like hats. jerseys, cardigans etc. She even made us kids sit there when she'd unravelled an old jumper while she wound the wool into balls to reuse again.

Re: Does anyone still knit?
The oldest knitted artifacts are socks from Egypt, dating from the 11th century.[2] They are a very fine gauge, done with complex colourwork and some have a short row heel, which necessitates the purl stitch. These complexities suggest that knitting is even older than the archeological record can prove.[3]

I think the hardest things I've ever knitted were cable stitch sweaters.

My mother in law knitted one for my hubby, he put it in the washing machine along with other stuff. It could fit a doll when it came out.
I let him explain to his mum

I cant remember him telling his mum, she must have spent hours on it, not to mention the cost of the wool.
Anyway I made up for it by helping to make one of those ready cut rugs. I actually enjoyed doing that.

Re: Does anyone still knit?
Yes my mum did as well. Redicut comes as a kit with all sorts of patterns. The one we did was similar to this, it lasted for years
and was only got rid of when his dad died, broke my heart when it went

We have an unfinished Redicut rug still in its box in the attic.
Good fun, but life got in the way.

Re: Does anyone still knit?
Hours of work went into the one we made, I wish I had the patience to sit and make one now. Apart from that, the weight
of a hearth rug would deter me.

Dig it out and finish it. The quality when finished is amazing.

Re: Does anyone still knit?
I don’t think my shaky hands and arthritic thumbs could handle pulling those wool threads through the backing now Lolly.
The irony is we’re looking for a new rug for the bedroom.

Ah yes I dint think of that.
You could always advertise it as an unfinished project?

Re: Does anyone still knit?
That’s a good suggestion Lolly.
An even better idea is give it to my Daughter and Son-in-Law, they have their own house now and are young enough to finish it.

Re: Does anyone still knit?
You’re not going to believe this Lolly, but I have my stainless steel wine fermenters in the bedroom, but the legs are digging in the carpet hence the need for a rug.
Mrs RMJ is not very happy and wants me to move them in our workshop and make some insulated containers to keep them warm.

Re: Does anyone still knit?
Listen to Aunty Lolly, {I like the sound of that} give the rug kit to your daughter on the understanding that she spends no money on
a birthday gift, as the love she puts into the rug would mean more to you. I lost my calling.
Wine fermenters in the bedroom sounds good to me.
