Who likes grits?

In the morning I am planning my breakfast of bacon, sausage, home made potato cakes,eggs and ....GRITS.....

I love them and got a taste for them in the 70's in the deep south of America. I just bought a box of them, Quaker brand and they are G-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-D...y'all.....

I add a pat of butter and salt and pepper to the grits on my plate and enjoy....!!!

So, who has had them and what are your thoughts?

Had loads but made with Maize meal.

I remember going to the Southern USA for the first time. It was to Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The first morning I met up with my Southern US colleagues in the restaurant and tried this southern food. When i went to pay my bill, the waitress said, "Thenk yoo, Y'all come back and see us, now"...I thought she was joking...putting it on...but, no she was very genuine..the others were smiling at me...Great fun....

I loved it...I ate hush puppies, catfish and turnip greens...and for peas they serve black eyed peas, not green peas which they call English peas...Lovely people..

Turnip greens or swede greens? They are very tasty, it's a pity they get cut off before reaching the shops. Have tried all of the above

many times. Tiger fish from Lake Malawi is probably like catfish.

Do you use a spurtle Fred?

Where did you get your Quaker grits from Fred? I usually buy maize meal for the local Indian grocery shop, they also sell cornmeal.

Lolly, thanks for that but I used an old fashioned implement called a wooden spoon.....

They eat them raw

I seem to remember a coarsely ground serial in the 60s that was similar to grits, my dad used to eat it off a spoon????
