Gaskell's bakery, Pem..?
Actually in Orrell. Does anyone have a photo of this place?
I would be grateful for this or any images or information. I remember going in there as a 13-14 year old kid with my mates back in the fifties. The 'Men' would be loading up metal tubs with flour and other additive's in order to make bread in the evenings, ready for the delivery the following morning. The smell was absolutely gorgeous. Who doesn't love the smell of fresh bread.

Whilst at school , aged about 13-14 I used to go up to the bakery on a Friday night , wait at the side door until one of the work men / bakers came out for a smoke then we would ask them for a stale loaf , to bake bread crumbs for ground bait for fishing . We would take it home , grind it up in an old hand grinder , then next day with rods strapped to my cross bar and my basket on my back I would bike it to Carr Mill Dam , and feed the fish . Great times , no photo's sorry .
