Spare parts

I took my car in for some work done, I got the bill and paid it. I got home and started to think about the price of the part. It was £27 plus VAT
added at the end of the bill.
When a garage orders the part are they charged VAT, and if so should the price on my bill show the price before VAT. Have I paid vat twice on the same part?
