Last remains of the Ladybird Carousel at Haigh Hall removed

As the circular concrete foundation slab of the Ladybird Carousel ride that had been a firm favorite with Wigan kiddies at Haigh Hall in the years and decades before the current incarnation of the childrens play area was built was finally broken up on Tuesday (29/08/23) after sitting empty and half hidden under debris ever since the ride closed and was removed over a decade ago.

An archaeological dig is taking place to discover if there are any historic treasures hiding underneath the ground…

The three day dig marks the very exciting next stage of a project we’re hoping to announce very soon. 🤫 

And what a bonus it was for us to be joined by Wigan Archaeological Society, who came to observe the dig and share their expertise on the history of the grounds.
