Re: Wigan Lights Switch On
I've bought a real tree for the first time in years, 3 foot from Sainsbury I intend having it out doors. Then plant it in the communal garden to grow further.. Not ready to dress it just yet. I have since found that the top has been cut off. So probably wont grow taller. Or will it.

Looking online, Lolly, unfortunately the tree might not thrive if you did plant it outside.
Cutting the top of an evergreen tree will leave a huge pruning wound that can potentially make the plant a target of deadly infections.

I've a good mind to take it back to Sainsbury. I didn't see it until I took the packaging off. It would have been nice to share it for a few years with my neighbours.

Re: Wigan Lights Switch On
I've had a Christmas tree in the garden for about 20 years, it was getting too tall so I cut about 4 feet off the top a couple of years ago. Since then it's grown wider and three new stems are growing from the top of the trunk. Next year I will remove two of the stems and leave the one I decide to keep.
