Budget 2024
The 2024 spring Budget will take place on Wednesday, 6 March. The chancellor's speech usually starts at about 12:30 UK time and lasts about an hour. It will be broadcast live on the BBC iPlayer and the BBC news website. This will be the last Budget before the general election, which must be by the end of January.

So I would presume that they will be making it a 'give away budget' so I wonder what 'goodies' will be in it

What was that famous note left from chief secretary to the Treasury under Gordon Brown,
" Im afraid there is no money left" I suppose what goes round comes round

Re: Budget 2024
I watched the news and some people are cross examining him....regarding the timing and content of the budget in an election year. Very interesting stuff. Meanwhile all the other parties are rubbishing the conservatives.
Who'd be a politician?...or even a voter?????

I have to say that at prime minister's question time Sadiki Khan looked like he'd been stuffed and placed there

Re: Budget 2024
In cheery news for drinkers, the chancellor has frozen alcohol duty. The freeze in duty was due to end in August but has been extended to February next year.
Fuel duty will remain at its current rate and be frozen for the next 12 months, the chancellor tells Parliament.
He will also extend a "temporary" 5p cut on fuel duty which was due to end this month.

Re: Budget 2024
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt sits back down on the government’s benches after delivering his Budget and spending review.
He was on his feet for just over one hour and shortly we will hear from Labour.
The SNP have forced a vote on the Budget, so this will add a delay to hearing a response from Labour's Sir Keir Starmer.

Re: Budget 2024
In a nut shell
National Insurance was cut for workers by another 2p, from 10% to 8% – having already fallen by 2p in last year's Autumn Statement
The earnings threshold for child benefit was raised to £60,000, from £50,000
The windfall tax on the profits of oil and gas companies was extended until 2029, while capital gains tax was reduced for the higher rate of property from 28% to 24%
And the non-dom tax break, claimed by wealthy foreign residents in the UK, was abolished - but new arrivals will still not pay tax on foreign income and gains for their first four years of UK residency
The Household Support Fund was extended for six months, falling short of charities’ hopes of a two-year extension
Alcohol duty was frozen and the 5p cut in fuel duty was extended
The chancellor announced a new British ISA to encourage more people to invest in UK assets
The VAT threshold for small businesses was increased, from £85,000 to £90,000
And there will be new taxes on vapes, and higher taxes for business class flights

Re: Budget 2024
I thought it was a good speech, I mean it was never going to be a bad news budget, and I enjoyed his quips at Labour, especially when Angela Raynor was in the firing line over second homes

That was probably the best Budget speech I have ever seen, which is something, as I can't stand Jeremy Hunt, but talk about 'hard faced' him and Rishi Sunak, I mean the price of energy, the cost of food, immigration at mental levels, and there was bugger all for pensioners yesterday, and they are not putting up the income tax threshold rates until 2028, but hey don't worry, they say we have never had it so good
I wonder if there will be a Genera Election in May ?
