Naughty Mitten wrote:"More than 40 people were rescued, French officials said, but more than 50 people remained in the boat and continued towards the UK" the BBC report
I wonder it the remaining 50 threw the others overboard? and perhaps they will have to return to France to be questioned for any enquiry
A new form of violence is emerging.

Sky News's Trevor Phillips asked the prime minister if migrants finding their way to Ireland was a sign the UK was "exporting the problem".

Re: Have your say
Rishi Sunak is enjoying this shift to Ireland and taking advantage of the distraction of boat people travelling to Ireland.
“Migrants travelling to Ireland after arriving in the UK on small boats is a sign the Rwanda scheme is already working as a deterrent”, Rishi Sunak has said.
Ireland's deputy prime minister Micheal Martin said on Friday the threat of being deported to Rwanda had caused an influx of migrants to cross the border from Northern Ireland into the Republic.
It’s early days, let’s see what happens longer term.
From Lolly, “Is France not "exporting the problem?”.
“France IS exporting the problem”.
They are glad to see the back of them.
Answer me this, these immigrants are living rough in the woods of Northern France.
They are desperate to get to the UK where they will be kept in hotels, fed and looked after while their immigration status is checked.
This is because the UK has a duty of care and human rights to comply with to migrants, do France not?

Re: Have your say
Immigrants had made their way to Northern Ireland before the Rwanda Bill was passed.
So they were in The UK and were subject to removal to Rwanda, so they upped sticks and went over the border the the Republic of Ireland, where the were safe from removal.

The shocking new images - taken this morning - reveal dozens of tents packed tightly next to each other on the streets around the International Protection Office as around 1,700 homeless migrants look for shelter.
The tents have no access to sanitary facilities with some of the migrants saying they've been forced to use an open toilet in the corner of the camp.

Re: Have your say
The first-ever migrant to have their asylum seeker claim rejected is said to have been sent to Rwanda from the UK.
The unnamed migrant left Britain on Monday evening and has since landed in Kigali, The Sun has revealed.
The man, whose bid to stay in the UK was rejected in 2023, opted to be relocated to the African country for a new life.

What did the first guy deported to Rwanda get £3000 for? Do they all get that? I see they have been cleared from the streets of Dublin. Well done.

Under the scheme, announced last month, migrants whose claims are rejected are offered up to £3,000 to move to the east African country.
It is separate to the forced returns scheme the government announced two years ago.

Glad it’s not my money they are throwing at them. Put them on an inflatable and tell them to make their own way home.

Re: Have your say
I don’t know what the story is but of course Canada has its problems. They have a serious need for Immigrants due to lower birth rates and an aging work force. However our erstwhile PM allowed too many in without being fully prepared. They now find there isn’t enough housing. They are further hampered by a lack of qualified tradesman and the fact that the long, harsh winters curtail construction. The problems aren’t as severe because the country is many times larger than the UK with half the population. As an added bonus no one reaches here on an inflatable.

I suppose there are a lot of countries experiencing the same as UK. Except we are a small island. Full to bursting.

I doubt it, they'd want an ongoing government grant
