Thanks for that DO, much appreciated.
Mrs RMJ worked there from 1970 to 1979 until our daughter was born.
She also did 4 years at the DHSS in Leyth previous to that and has ended up with a half decent pension, something today's workers will NOT get.

Today's workers should be better off. The employers then weren't forced to fund private pension schemes on their employees behalf. Today they are.

Re: Lennons Supermarket
Ticsmon, I agree with Andrew, today’s workers are not better off pension wise.
I have two final salary pensions from my previous employment, both very generous, but when I did my last company change before retirement, the company had dropped final salary schemes in favour of stakeholder pensions.
Basically you pay into a fund, and when retirement comes, you take your fund and find a financial company to convert it into a monthly pension.
I payed into the fund for 8 years and the return is very poor.

Just in case Andrew means employers are not forced to fund private pension schemes .... THIS says they are.
If he means they are not better off, what makes you think that?

Re: Lennons Supermarket
Anyroadup, I knew the bloke who owned Lennons. I bought a car off him and installed a security system to his house in Moss Bank. He was the first bloke in the north west to buy a Rolls Royce Camargue!
Lennon's was a St.Helens supermarket chain!

Re: Lennons Supermarket
Ticsmon, an interesting article that.
I don’t think anybody has made a wrong statement.
You are correct to say that the employer must provide a pension scheme, and I was pointing out that employers are moving away from expensive final salary schemes to less expensive but much low yielding stakeholder schemes.

Re: Lennons Supermarket
I remember my mum taking me on the bus to go to Lennons. I am pretty sure it was before I started school which was late 1964. So I think it must have opened before that.
