My cousin was married at St Marys. I was a bridesmaid. A shame it had to be demolished

That’s a fantastic photo, Roskie, thanks. I can’t remember the old church and didn’t realise the present church was actually once a school.
From 1:47 “As we approach the bridge, on our right is the now no longer standing St Mary’s Church, built in 1887 and demolished in 1978 due to mining subsidence.”

St Marys opposite the old hall? Wasn't there a stone masons around there? Handy for the cemetery

Looking at that map Cadfael. I'm trying to place a family grave. I've lost my bearings.
Where the derelect chapels[sad they are in such a state] are there is a path that leads up hill, at the very top is the family grave.I'm sure that the railway line runs at the back of this grave?

Bear in mind there is no Westwood Cemetery on that map, it had not been opened in 1927. That can be confusing when getting bearings.

If Phase 2 & 3 of the A49 Link Road go ahead, the bridge by Burgess St. will be reinstated, along with the railway bridge to the east.
