The Mini 60 years
The production version of the Mini was demonstrated to the press in April 1959, and by August, several thousand cars had been produced ready for the first sales. The Mini was officially announced to the public on 26 August 1959.

Remember the add showing five tall men alighting from a mini? One was John Cleese.
Re: The Mini 60 years
There was plenty of room in the back of those minis'.
So I've been told.

Re: The Mini 60 years
The moggie and the 65 mini cooper were nails to drive . Uncomfortable and noisy . BUT , at the time we thought they were great , 'cos we didn't know better . And now we have the modern car , usually with no character style or what's that French phrase , no .........................( I still got pleasure out of driving them though ).

I use an MGB now and can still give a lot of modern cars a run for their money

Re: The Mini 60 years
Some cracking pics.
Like most people my first car was a mini, a bright red model, 850cc engine, with sliding windows and outside hinges.
I used to want to relive my yoof by buying a reconditioned VW Beetle,
but the fact is modern cars are more reliable, more comfortable, better equipped and
much safer than old models.
