Statues of a miner, a pit brow lass and a child stand in front of Wigan Town Hall, formerly Wigan and District Mining and Technical College founded 1857

Sculptor: Steve Winterburn, Installed: March 2020

The unveiling was low-key due to Covid-19, so there may be an official ceremony at a later date.

Wigan Mining Sculpture Empty Wigan Miners Monument Unveiling

Saturday 11 September: 11am - 12pm

There will be a short ceremony with speeches and an opportunity to find out more about the statue, how the funds were raised and why it is an important addition to our borough.
