Latest charity shop find is this greeting card titled 'Market Hall' by S. Rasburn 1986. Printed by Douglas Printers for Central Cards.
If only they hadn't knocked this wonderful building down

Re: Old Market Hall.
McAvoy's butchers and Sutcliffe's tripe stall on the right. Used to know Jim and Joan Sutcliffe well.
If I remember rightly, the gap which can be seen between the stalls on that side, took you out into the fruit market on the Hope Street side.

The gap did indeed take you out into the fruit market, mickrick. Past Smailes on the left and Cowards on the right.
My aunt and uncle owned the cafe which you would have passed also. The smell of fresh fruit and veg has never been duplicated for me. It was unique.
I also knew Jim and Joan Sutcliffe. Jim was a gentleman who showed me his 'factory' where he boiled up tripe every day and Joan was one of the prettiest ladies in the market.
Those were good days....I have never experienced any like them since......

I dont think that's Redmans Wigan. It looks more like Bolton.

Re: Old Market Hall.
I never really liked the old Market Hall, and I liked the new Market Hall even less, I would use the shops at the top of Pemberton in the 1970s and early 1980s, particularly the butchers, I remember there being at least three at the top of Pemberton, and Ken Green's Fruit & Veg shop, Clipjoint for a crop and blow dry, or Norman & Philip above Lows for a curly Perm.
