Wigan Lane...

The Battle of Wigan Lane, Civil War, 25th August 1651....

"Only posh people live in Wigan Lane"
Well that's not quite true .
When my dad left the army he got a job as a policeman at the ROF factory at Beechill .
But he smacked an inspector , and lost his job and his police house .
My mum dad and six kids ( me the youngest) , were sent into the work house in Frog Lane.
Mum pleaded with the then corporation , and they gave us a condemed house to live in at the top of .....Wigan Lane.
It backed onto the Folley and there was a pop factory near bye.
They then gave us a brand new house on Norley hall.
Mum was so greatful and releived .

Norley Hall was the best back then. I am pleased for you and your family.

We lived on Montrose Ave in Worsley Hall when my mothers friend asked her if she would like a house in the new estate of Norley Hall. This lady ahd been offered it but didn't want to leave her friends in Worsley Hall. So she and my mum exchanged homes and nordic and I became neighbours.....

Oh Nordic,I feel for your Mum and Dad,I'm so glad things turned out well in the end.

Old Beehive Inn, Wigan Lane corner of old lane. It closed early 1900s. Part of the building was demolished at a later date when widening Wigan Lane.
