Looking down Standishgate, 1889, before steam trams and rails were laid showing the big lamp.

Just turned this pic up I took in 2015.
Timber studding rescued from the mediaeval buildings in Standishgate in the Dicconson St/Powell St area, when they were demolished in the 1970/80s.
In the old Bluecoat school building, next to the parish church.

A Very Rare Photograph top of standishgate 1874 showing the big Lamps top and bottom of standishgate well before trams went down the photo was taken by John Cooper the number one Photographer at the time he was also Landlord of the Royal Oak lower standishgate on right out of shot. (Notice how Standishgate is spelled).

The roads leading into the centre of the town , Standishgate, Wallgate, Millgate, Hallgate, Bishopgate and Stairgate.

Stairgate no longer exists It was where the Grand Arcade was built

Just turned these up - a 'Then and Now' I did of Standishgate about fifteen years ago, using an old postcard and modern pic taken from the same location, and also a 'half and half' stitching parts of the two images together.

A postcard I bought on Widnes flea market a few years ago.

Interesting how they split Standishgate into two words. Makes sense.
