Mr Bates V The Post Office
Has anyone been watching this? There are 4 episodes the third being tonight. I found it hard to watch, and couldnt believe how those people were treated. 736 people prosecuted, some lost their homes and life savings. One old fella went to prison, some died without receiving any justice. A very sad story

A strange thing for the BBC to air considering their treatment of staff and licence payers

I did intend to watch this having seen the previews, but as Lolly has said, it is a dreadful story of wrongs done and lives ruined, I suspect it would be too upsetting.

Re: Mr Bates V The Post Office
I have just started watching it on ITVX and it is very good, and ITV have used good actors, I have followed this saga from the start, and as I may have mentioned elsewhere, I had a female relative who was a sub-postmaster in a rural locality, and the way she looked after her pensioners reminded me very much of this lady victim Jo Hamilton LINK how she looked after her customers, and I remember her and her husband telling me years ago, that when the Post Office Auditors came in that any shortfall in the branch funds had to be paid immediately, a cheque had to be handed over before the auditors left, on the other hand if there were too many funds in the branch accounts, the auditors would hand over a cheque for the amount to the sub-post master.

I don't think it will make a scrap of difference to all those prosecuted. They deserve compensation. But at the end of the day nothing is going to make up for what those people lost.

They are on about quashing ALL of the convictions for fraud, given out during the Horizon scandal, even though some of them will have been genuine frauds.

The real life victims have been appearing on the media channels today, and the BBC are really pursuing this, so maybe the BBC don't want GB News leading the story, which they did with the Debanking scandal and their Keep Cash campaign.

Horizon scandal: Post Office scandal victims to be exonerated and compensated as Rishi Sunak proposes new law
The government also announced an "upfront payment" of £75,000 which will be made available to hundreds of postmasters. It is not clear in what form or on what timetable the new bill will be presented.
Once they are exonerated, the government has confirmed victims will be eligible for at least £600,000 compensation, depending on their circumstances.

Re: Mr Bates V The Post Office
Panorama, starting at 10.40pm tonight on BBC1 is about it, so that is why the BBC have been so dynamic about it.

Lolly
Today I find myself very disillusioned with this country and the nobheads which live in it
That Panorama program last night was far better than the drama/documentary which has just been shown on ITV about it, but it was shown in April 2022 and I never knew anything about it, and they had the real people it happened to in the program telling what had happened to them, so why wasn't there an outcry starting in April 2022 ?
Because in April 2022 the news channels, even the bloody BBC who made the Panorama program, were too busy skrikin about Boris eating piece of cake and having glass of plonk during lockdown, the soft sods
And they weren't happy until they had hounded Boris out of the job a couple of months later, don't get me wrong, Boris should have kept his eye on the ball, but look what we got after Boris, on GB News a couple of days ago a guest described Rishi Sunak has being "a spineless back stabbing coward"
I thought "well I cawn't argue with that"
That is what I think ..........

Re: Mr Bates V The Post Office
I watched the panorama prog last night, I did think I'd seen it before. I think Rishi Sunak
has had his work cut out since becoming PM. The lettuce would have been equally as bad.
Kier Starmer has said that he wasn't aware of Horizon cases brought against sub-postmasters by the Crown Prosecution Service when he led it. The buck stops at the top.IMO

Liz, the joke as I remember it was, a lettuce lasts longer then she did. :=
Edit lasted longer than she did as Prime minister. I thought I'd just clarify that
