Figures from across the region show the huge amounts councils are making

The data, released by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, shows incomes from on-street penalty charges around the region last year. This is how it looks:

Manchester - £7,274,000
Bury - £1,170,000
Bolton - £1,133,000
Rochdale - £966,000
Oldham - £623,000
Trafford - £549,000
Stockport - £435,000
Tameside - £398,000
Wigan - £0
Salford – £0

It would be interesting to know if any here has paid a PCN fine to the council

Over 20 years ago, then I showed them the ticket........end of

Oh and 14 years ago the machine was not working so I went straight away and told them, when I got bac I'd been given a ticket, so I went bach and gave them a mouthful, fortunately I had given them my reg no.................end of

I was asking in relation to the opening post

Town halls in Greater Manchester are among those making a sizable income from on-street penalty charges with Manchester raking in £7.3 million. Bury and Bolton council also cashed in more than a million, while Wigan and Salford made no income at all, according to the figures.

I paid me Westhoughton penalty charge to Bolton council LINK

And it is the same for Wigan, you pay the charge to the council LINK

That is for parking on council streets and council owned car parks.

I don't know why Bolton rake it in from parking tickets and Wigan don't, but I can take a guess

I think that Wigan only actively enforce the parking regulations in Wigan and Leigh town centres, with a squad of parking officers in both towns, but as regards the rest of the Borough, such has Ashton and Hindley etc they don't bother, they just use a mobile enforcement presence, a car with a couple of officers patrols the borough, issuing tickets as and when, but compare that to Westhoughton, which is one of the Bolton Metro townships, and it is about the same size as the Wigan township of Golborne, and Wigan townships such as Atherton, Hindley, Ashton-in-Makefield are larger than Westhoughton, BUT, Westhoughton has three full time enforcement officers, if a flea parks it's bum where it shouldn't, it would get a ticket for it in Westhoughton

If that is repeated in all of the Bolton townships, such as Horwich, Blackrod, Farnworth etc, then that is where Bolton council is getting it's parking ticket money from, Wigan's parking ticket money, probably doesn't cover it's parking enforcement expenses.

I could be wrong though, we need a has-been drip under pressure (ex spurt) to confirm or deny that, that is the case

Perhaps they didn't reply or replied too late for FOI request
