Storm Isha
Two different amber warnings are in place across most of the UK from 6pm to Monday morning, saying 70mph winds should be expected inland, with gusts of 80mph on coastal regions.
In parts of Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland winds could reach 90mph.

Had an email from electricity north west warning me about it.
I'm ready. Wind up radio, battery lights, and torches at the ready. Flask which I'll fill later. You never know

Re: Storm Isha
We are prepared for Storm Isha here at RMJ Towers.
We are prone to power cuts as our power supply is an overhead cable from Hindley which very often gets blown down.
So, we have battery lights everywhere, two gas fired camping stoves for cooking and brews, and gas fires, so we won’t be short of food, light and heating.
I’ve also chained the bins to the wall outside.
Seems after Isha there is another one on the way.
Roll on soddin’ Spring !!!

The last time I had a power cut somebody from wherever appeared within the hour and wired in a temporary petrol generator and kept coming back to refuel it until the fault was corrected

You lucky thing NM.
Last power cut we had we were out for just short of two days, which surprise surprise is when they start to compensate you.

I suspect it's your Northerly location Lolly, also you mentioned having storage heaters which means you're all electric, so maybe they prioritise you for advance warnings.

Re: Storm Isha
I think it was fitted because nobody else suffered the power cut in the road. A few years ago a new substation was fitted but it was the wrong voltage and all the lights were dim, next minute two bloody big wagons turned up with huge generators and they were there for days until they sourced a new substation

I thought that it was maybe only you, I don't think a single generator would supply a whole street.

Re: Storm Isha
Sadly Ray, we're all paying for our infrastructure to be modernised with a more secure supply instead of poles via standing charges, but I've seen no really improvements for 20 years or more, its all going to new industrial estates etc. not the people who are paying for it

There's a long story about how they eventually found where the fault was after digging around six holed, one ot the crew was having a brew and spilt it when there was a rumble and thud beneath his feet

Re: Storm Isha
Sorry for your problems NM, you must be well brassed off.
If it’s any consolation, I’m really disillusioned with our supplier, the new houses which back onto my property are on a different supply via the Bolton area and are NEVER off.
I despair when high winds are forecast.

I hope you survive OY, it seems coastal areas are going to get the brunt of this storm, take care.

Exactly, we're paying for new projects whilst the existing grid for 99% of the nation is ignored

Re: Storm Isha
The Met Office has said a tornado could hit western parts of the UK amid Storm Isha.
A "tornado watch" zone was issued for Northern Ireland, as well as parts of Scotland and northern England by the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (Torro) earlier today.
The warning means a “strong tornado” is possible in those regions.

Re: Storm Isha
I'm still here,
Storm Isha has hit across the UK - winds reaching 90mph were recorded in isolated areas of Wales and Scotland.
Electricity companies have reported cuts to thousands of homes across the country - including 5,000 in the north-west of England, 2,000 in Wales and several hundred in Cornwall.
