If you could bring back a shop, in Wigan....
What would it be?
My shop would be Mark Williams for their gorgeous pork pies...

I did use to like to browse in Chamberlain’s music shop on Standishgate.
This was before the days of photocopying, and unlike today with everything being on the internet when you had to buy sheet music.
They also had a limited range of musical instruments, I bought a recorder for school from them.
Is it still their since they built that new road that cuts though Standishgate?

The last shop Chamberlains occupied between the Griffin and the old Co-op offices is still there RJ, but standing empty, I think. It was a computer repair place until recently.
Their old shop, which was also on Standishgate, but closer to the town centre, was demolished about fifty years ago.
As regards which shop would I bring back - the list is endless.
Sutcliffes tripe stall, with Jim and Joan Sutcliffe in charge, Ashcroft's fishing tackle shop in Millgate, Boylan's fishmongers are just three.
When I'd done shopping in them, I'd like to be able to go for a pint of Draught Bass in the Park Hotel, as well.

In the modern era, in the last ten to fifteen years, the shop I miss the most is the 'Book Clearance Centre' which was on the upper level of Marketgate.

I did like Woolworths and its old world charm before it became WH Smiths.
I always found WH Smiths a depressing place to shop.
