Re: St David's day....
I am 35% Welsh, me dad was 50% Welsh, I love Wales, but the only thing which spoils it, are the Welsh folk who live there

Thanks for that TTS. I also love Wales but am not sure of a good welcome should I ever decidee to live there. I always found the people very nice but have heard bad stories in the past. Pity really.
Re: St David's day....
The Welsh have always had an inbred anti English attitude, some of it can be understood, in the past the Welsh language and culture was banned in schools.
The Welsh language has survived but shows itself in the following scenario :-
You walk into a shop or bar in Wales, they are all speaking English, you speak to ask for something and suddenly everybody starts to speak Welsh !!!.
Without wanting to stir up any anti Welsh feeling the above is based on many previous experiences.

I've never come across any animosity from people in Wales

As you say Lolly, a lovely place to visit, but because of my experiences we never went to Wales for many years, but since my Daughter got married and moved there we’ve been more often.
From what I understand the North Walians are more anti English than the South Walians, this is to do with the prevalence of the Welsh language.

I have to say that Welsh people I’ve worked with or known who live here in England have always been OK.

Although my comments about the Welsh are said mainly 'tongue in cheek' there is an element of anti English sentiment in North Wales.

I think when it comes to mixing with the English, the Welsh would prefer the company of sheep

Re: St David's day....
I have worked in contracts in Barry Island and Rhymney in South Wales with no animosity. I have worked quite a few times in Scotland and it was mainly trouble free. However I was in a bar in Edinburgh in 1999 when England played NZ and there was a definite, and hostile , anti English atmosphere.
