Re: Have your say
Well, unbelievable, or is it?
Some 711 people were detected crossing the English Channel on Wednesday, the highest number on a single day so far this year, the Home Office has revealed.
The total number of small boat arrivals now stands at a provisional total of 8,278 this year alone.
Is it any wonder when you have these do-gooders making sure they can stay in a nice hotel instead of a horrible barge !!!!!
They have fled war torn countries and persecution in their home lands, they have endured sleeping rough in Northern France and finally a dangerous sea crossing to get here, but they shouldn’t have to live on a nice warm barge with food and a comfortable place to sleep and spending money and access to the local neighbourhood in Portland.
My blood boileth over !!!!!!

Re: Have your say
If these do gooders care so much, then why cant the migrants be billeted with them rather than in hotels and on barges? Free of charge, of course, and no handouts. That would save the taxpayer a lot of money. Time they put their money where therir mouth is!
Is that thought too radical?

My sentiment too UJ as I posted earlier.
They have found a new home along a Dublin Canal.
More than 70 tents were pitched in lines on both banks of the canal in the area around the Mount Street Bridge on Sunday.

Re: Have your say
Just been looking up Irish Gaelic and found some interesting points that I was not aware of and thought I would share them....
"For most of recorded Irish history, Irish was the dominant language of the Irish people, who took it with them to other regions, such as Scotland and the Isle of Man, where Middle Irish gave rise to Scottish Gaelic and Manx. It was also, for a period, spoken widely across Canada, with an estimated 200,000–250,000 daily Canadian speakers of Irish in 1890.[15] On the island of Newfoundland, a unique dialect of Irish developed before falling out of use in the early 20th century. "
I was once in a small village in Newfoundland looking for a place to fish whilst driving across the Province on business. I came across a place called Howley which was accessed only by train. The train was being withdrawn meaning the village would be cut off so they had cut a road made from wood chips through the forest from the main Trans Canada highway. So, entering the village I asked a young lad where to fish and he answered me in a strong Irish brogue. The people had obviously originated from Ireland and had never had any influence from the 'Outside'. An amazing experience for a young lad from Wigan.....

Re: Have your say
As I am sure you know Admin that side of Canada ( Nova Scotia, Newfoundland) have very strong Irish connections. They love diddley music and the fiddle etc. It is the only part of Canada I can recognize people by their accents.

My neighbour is from New Waterford on Cape Breton Island. I remember him telling me that when he went to school you were looked down on by your classmates if you took Lobster for your midday meal. How times change. He actually doesn’t like any kind of seafood.

Re: Have your say
When I lived in Nova Scotia in 1965 I heard a similar story. Kids who used to take lobster for their lunch would hide from the other kids when they ate it...Wow......!!! It must have been the equivalent of jam butties in Wigan....what!!!

Dutch Eurovision entry axed from tonight line up, and protestors gather outside the
venue hosting the Eurovision

Eurovision has always been a non political event. It's not about governments its about
music and song. The Dutch song contained political lyrics and they were asked to change them. It seems that there is arguments going on behind the scenes. Could this be the end of Eurovision?

You either like it or not. You have a choice to turn off or over. Personally I can take it or leave it. Greta Tundberg has appeared at the protest I see.

Re: Have your say
After a bit of googling, Israel were given permission to enter Eurovision back in 1973, as they were members of EBU, European Broadcasting Union, as are all other participating countries, with the exception of Australia, who were given permission relatively not that long ago, as they have supported the contest for many years.

We will invest into the future and keep bills down for good!'
Sir Keir Starmer blames the Tories for spiralling energy costs, saying their approach was a 'classic example of sticking plaster politics' which 'left Britain badly exposed' when Russia invaded Ukraine.

Will it happen?

I was reading about the woman jailed for running whilst allegedly having MS. Surely you must undergo some examination by a doctor, take blood tests etc. prior to your claim being approved. If so is the doctor not culpable?

I dont know anything of the story Broady, but I can tell you that MS affects different people in different ways. Diagnosing MS isn't as straightforward as you might think.

Presumably she was diagnosed, however difficult, in order to receive the £70,000 over ten years.

Re: Have your say
She may have exaggerated her condition in order to claim more. It's not unknown for people to do that. It's the genuine people who suffer because of these people.
