Car Insurance

There has been much talk in the press and on TV about Car Insurance going up. I got my renewal offer today, it's almost double.
My renewal letter says

Why has my price increased?

"In the past year, UK insurers have seen a big increase in the cost of customer claims, including labour and materials, which are affected by inflation and world events"

I'm not one of those people who have made a claim, I've had claim free driving for since I passed my test years ago. Why am I effectively
paying for those who have made claims.

I too had a massive increase in my premiums this year.
I’ve been accident free for many years and my annual mileage is only 3500 although I claim for 5000 miles, it has doubled over 3 years.
My biggest gripe with the insurers is their farcical no claims protection.
Yes, they DON’T reduce their no claims protection percentage when you make a claim, but they DO raise your premium, so you end up paying more after an accident.

Unfortunately this is a result of NCAP safety actions where manufactures need 5 stars to sell cars resulting in a small front end or rear end collision resulting in the replacement of not only maybe the bumper but pedestrian detectors, distance radars parking cameras the list can be endless as can be the cost of replacing those type of items and people with all the latest safety tech would never be able to afford the insurance if the cost was not spread across the board

I went to money saving expert car insurance which found me I think 4 quotes at least £100
below what was my renewal quote. I didnt know up to last year that having a second driver on my insurance lead to a lesser premium. I put my daughter on and got a lower premium.
I can lower it a bit more on the quotes I had today if I knew her driving licence number. A job for later.

Adding another driver has its draw backs if the other driver has their own car insurance because if the other driver is involved in an accident whilst driving your car your insurance company will claim of their insurance company too

I cant remember the last time she drove my car, if ever. Maybe once? But if she is a named driver I get the reduction.

Do0nt let her drive it then and all will be fine

Believe me it wouldn't be by choice driving my car. She has a rather stylish Audi
