I've had all the old photos on WW..but still can't make it out..is the curve going to the right possibly leading to Woolies.

I think it's Standish gate. Look at the top of the building on the left. on this pic That building would have been opposite what was Woolworth. Maybe Makinsons Arcade or the old Boots chemist.

I agree it is Standishgate with Haigh Hall in the background.Possibly taken from premises in Market Place. The churches I think are St.Paul's Congregational church set further back from the road and in your last picture Dicconson Street Methodist Church.I remember the Electricity showrooms being in the mock tudor building next to the church and the Square Deal shop on the oposite corner of Dicconson Street.
