Well whatderyouknow
Why Brass Doorknobs?
You use the brass doorknobs many times in a day and yet have you ever wondered why it is mostly made of brass? It is not because the brass is cheap.
The fact is that brass is more resistant to bacteria and as doorknobs are used by so many people, brass helps it stay germ-free.
All my internal door have brass knobs.

So where did the goose business come from? And I have my doubts about your second link because of what it says about the Star of Bethlehem and what we've just been told.

Re: I never knew that
It seems that there has been quite an evolution of the traditional Christmas meal:
At first, in medieval England, a main course of boar was sometimes served.[citation needed] Through the 16th and 17th centuries goose or capon was commonly served, and the rich sometimes dined upon peacock and swan.

The Swan is listed, in Leviticus 11, as an abomination and shall not be eaten.
However, the Peacock is not, so fill ya boots! With Peacock!

The name Santa Claus evolved from Nick’s Dutch nickname, Sinter Klaas, a shortened form of Sint Nikolaas (Dutch for Saint Nicholas).

As is often said 'ignorance is not a viable defence'.
I suppose it is possible for an elderly person or couple to be unaware of the lockdown at a stretch, but three families living dozens of miles apart?

Maundy money brooch
Caroline’s curiosity of the day!
What is the broach made from? And what is the significance of the coins.
Answers 8pm tonight
ANSWER Broach made from1897 maundy money coins given by Queen Victoria in her Diamond Jubilee year.
The history of the Royal Maundy service dates back to the time of King Edward the Confessor (1042-66), a Christian religious event held annually on Maundy Thursday, the day preceding Good Friday at Easter. The public ceremony has changed over the centuries, with foot washing and the giving of alms evolving over the centuries into monetary gifts distributed by the monarch or their deputy to a select group of elderly people.
The ceremony’s origin lies in the commandment Christ gave his disciples (‘mandatum’ in Latin – hence ‘Maundy’) – ‘that you love one another’ at his Last Supper, just after he had washed the disciples’ feet.
Maundy money is traditionally made of sterling silver and consists of 1d, 2d. 3d and 4d coins. The coins are legal tender but they were never issued for general circulation because of their silver content and collector value. Maundy coins were the only four British coins that did not change shape, size or design when the nation adopted the decimal currency however in 1971, the face values of the coins were increased from old to new pence.
One man and one woman over the age of 70 years are chosen each year by church leaders as a reward for the service they have given to the Church and the community. They receive two purses each, one red and one white. In the white purse they receive maundy money equivalent in pence for each year the Queen has lived. A Maundy set comprises one each of the four Maundy coins, having a total face value of ten pence. Each set represents ten years of the monarch’s age, and each recipient is given one set of Maundy coins for every decade she has lived, with any remaining years represented in single coins. Last year, each recipient would have had nine sets of Maundy coins and an extra three pence, making ninety-three pence in total. The red purse, last year this contained a £5 coin, which commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria and a 50p coin portraying Sherlock Holmes. The recipients of maundy money naturally keen to treasure a gift that has been personally presented to them by the monarch, these treasured pieces of British history rarely appear on the market, and when they do, they are always highly collectible. In 2020 it was scheduled to be on Thursday 9th April but the Queen has cancelled all upcoming engagements from mid March due to covid-19 it won’t be on this year.
