Re: HRH THE QUEEN RIP
Carolean is a description for the name Charles, in the same way that Elizabethan referred to the name Elizabeth.
The term was first used to refer to the reign of King Charles II (1660 to 1685). When his father Charles I was on the throne (1625 to 1649), that was known as the Caroline Era, both terms deriving from the Latin word for Charles, Carolus.
Thanks, Lolly, that’s interesting, I hadn’t heard of Carolean before.

Bank holiday declared for date of Queen’s state funeral
Something I've never seen before
"The original plans are for the Queen’s coffin to process on a gun carriage to the abbey, pulled by naval ratings – sailors – using ropes rather than horses"

Re: HRH THE QUEEN RIP
Naval ratings pulling the gun carriage was used at the funeral of George 6th. It was not used at the last State Funeral in the UK (Winston Churchill). Most large funerals since eg the Queen Mother, Diana, Philip, Margaret Thatcher etc have been Ceremonial Funerals.

Re: HRH THE QUEEN RIP
A statement from The Princess Royal
I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys. Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting.
"We will all share unique memories. I offer my thanks to each and every one who share our sense of loss.
We may have been reminded how much of her presence and contribution to our national identity we took for granted. I am also so grateful for the support and understanding offered to my dear brother Charles as he accepts the added responsibilities of The Monarch.
To my mother, The Queen, thank you"

Re: HRH THE QUEEN RIP
Beautiful, Lolly...
What a lovely few days as we follow Her Majesty's journey back to London. Bless HER.
Next Monday is the funeral and as a loyal subject I will be promising to be 'glued' to the television set to spend the whole day just watching the funeral of the greatest monarch in living memory.
May SHE rest in Peace.
