What a cracking almost supernatural photo Fredmin (I like that OY ).
I have been to Castlerigg Circle many times, you can see and feel why the ancients felt such a mystical aura about the place.

Yes, Ray, there is a 'feeling' up there, with a beautiful view of the valley below. The sun was setting and the moon was rising at the same time on this particular evening.
Cheers, Oy..............

Yes, I have.
The striped tower in the photo was built during the 1400's, but was first documented in 1531. Its name in Sanish is "Mölleporten" which translates to "Millgate." Whenever I see it, or look at the photo, it does remind me of Wigan for obvious reasons.
It was the northern entrance to the town of Stege on the island of Mön. Quite historic, as it is one of only two preserved town gates in the whole of Denmark.
The whole island is well worth a holiday visit. During the Summer months, it absolutely buzzes, especially for someone that is into both old and new.

Lovely pic, and a nice bit of history from UJ.
It looks very clean, not a crisp bag or empty coke can in sight.

Cant resist this comment! Britain would probably be the dirtiest country in Europe. At least, if Brexit had not happened!
Seriously, its rare to see litter of any kind on the ground, not only in Denmark, but the other Scandinavian countries as well. I could offer a theory as to the reason.

Re: Pik a Wik...
I’d be interested to know your theory UJ
My theory is this, there is no education or discipline starting at the earliest in our schools.
That said it’s not just down to kids, adults too are guilty of littering.
There used to be a ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ campaign, it used be widely shown on television and other media., apparently it is still active today but do we see it?
Being a charity it probably can’t afford high profile publicity.
Also, get this, we are a nation of lazy, slothful, don’t give a sh*t, “somebody else will clear it up “, can’t be ar*ed, no gooders !!!!!!, Wigan Peers members excepted of course.
Sorry for the rant but it’s something I feel strongly about.
Uncle Joe points out the difference of attitude in Scandinavian countries, how do they achieve that?

Re: Pik a Wik...
After living in Canada for many years, I find that we have low expectations in this country. Over there they have pride and high expectations, especially in restaurants and shopping in general. I also believe that it has been bred into us going back as far as the middle ages when the people were kept in their place by the lords, barons and knights and earls, etc. We are changing slowly but have a long way to go.
Re: Pik a Wik...
Blimey, some interesting thoughts Admin.
I agree with your comments on low expectations here and Canadians having pride.
It’s an unusual connection to medieval serfs and Barons !!!!!, you may well be right of course.
I don’t remember there being that much litter about when I was growing up, and before anyone says it, no it wasn’t in olden times !!!!! LOL
That said there wasn’t the same amount of things in the fifties and sixties that you could cause litter with, no McDonalds, KFC, cans of Coke etc.

Re: Pik a Wik...
Reading through and answering previous replies.
There is a great deal of pride in Scandinavian countries. To a large extent, thats brought about by their Governments creating a good living standard for all, which brings about a great deal of equality. If someone lives in a "nice area" then they take care of that area by keeping it neat and tidy. Added to that, recycling started well in advance of the UK. Children are taught from an early age age not only to put their waste in its place, but also in its correct place. So not dropping litter is more a case of habit than anything else.
There are of course laws regarding dropping litter. By and large, these are adhered to. Not only for reasons I just mentioned, but also because the population trust their Governments to do the right thing. When people have been asked in surveys "So you trust your Government?" the lowest figure I've seen answering yes is 85%!!!! Compare that to similar surveys in the UK.

Re: Pik a Wik...
That's exactly the point that I was talking about. This not the same in the U.K, and I believe it does go back centuries here. Thank you UJ.
Re: Pik a Wik...
Thanks for your info UJ, we don't have that mentality in this country, very sad.
