Re: Pemberton pics...
I think the houses opposite have to Helvellyn Rd, with Duncan Collquohons (Spelling?) house just before the Green.

Re: Pemberton pics...
He was a lovely man, from Scotland and had a beautiful wife. His son was nice also, he would make us tea and biscuits in his shed and fawned over us lads like a mother hen. A nice lad but different from the rest of us.
there were some nice people on Helvellyn back then, the like of which I have not seen since...!!!!!
Good times...

Re: Pemberton pics...
A couple of IDs for the Lamberhead Green Salvation Army band photo above.
First left seated on front row, Tom Pilkington, who later with his wife May, had May's Chippy (of blessed memory) in Orrell Road (Fishergate), opposite the Traveller's Rest.
The fresh faced young chap second from right on back row, is Jimmy Topping, who had the cobbler's shop a few doors up from May's Chippy, opposite the top of Loch Street. This is still a cobbler's shop (Billy Haselden's).

Thanks, Mickrick for the info. I remember May's chippy when I first came home on holiday from Canada. Just a beautiful treat although I found the beer at the Travellers disappointing.
Also welcome to Wigan Peers. We are a good bunch....

By coincidence, Tom and May Pilkington's son Gerald also lives in Canada (not sure where) I hear from him online from time to time.

Re: Pemberton pics...
I remember the George being there and the slate/stone wall made from large slices of slate/stone. The pet food shop where we bought our pigeon 'peys', and Mr Simms newspaper shop, just out of sight where I earned 12/6 a week for delivering papers.
