Thank you Lolly , was it 12 in a 2 bedroomed terraced house in Enfield Street.
A grand piano and a steam engine , bet it was tight at bed time . Very interesting how our fore fathers / mothers coped with life .

Re: Pemberton pics...
nordic, yes, it does look like a bowling green. Any suggestions as to where it is?
Re: Pemberton pics...
Did the Ross Works have one , before Wigan Highfield rugby then us Highfield St Mat; played on it . Too close to be the cricket club , if they had one , still most of the pubs had bowling greens in the old days .

I believe so. I do remember, as a little lad, looking down into the bar area of the old pub on the corner. I remember seeing a little old man with a pipe stood at the bar. The memories are terrific.

Yes I do , like many others , the area we lived in as kids was the hub of the universe to us . We wanted for nothing , or so it seemed .
I will always remember Pemberton with fondness , and memories , although they may become less accurate with time , should I hope never leave me .
I enjoy the old photo's of all parts of Wigan .

I did the same the last time I was in Pem. I went to Englands and stocked on sausages. Yes, I am rotund as well...

Trams at Pemberton, about 1904. To the right of the trams are now the present day shops such as Gee Tee's, Greenhalgh's bakery and England's butchers, the latter would be in this picture then, as it was established in 1850, as it's sign states, far left is the Pemberton police station and the Queen's Hotel now GeeTees.
Photo origin unknown.
Re: Pemberton pics...
I used to park my bike under the police station window when visiting a relative who lived in Short St..I thought nobody would try and pinch it from there...and I loved having a toot in GeeTees.
